Here is the Challenge

I was talking to a Home Building Company a couple of weeks ago.  They felt that perhaps  the SAP Home Building Solution could not really meet the requirement to handle a highly customised house.  I agree that the SAP Demo system for Home Building probably does not cater for this scenario.

This would be a house that perhaps is part of the standard range offered by a Home Building Company but due to site constraints needs extensive modification, or perhaps it is a house not offered at all but is a plan provided by the customer.  

I thought about this for a while, and we are going to take up the challenge to add this ability to the radiant Think Home Building Solution.  We are commencing a prototype where we start with nothing.  By entering key attributes of the house and using this to assist in building the Bill of Materials where additional attributes can be added we want to be able to take much of the hard work out of estimating the house. 

Our aim is to let SAP do much of the hard work in determining the correct components and quantities, but also allow manual changes if required.  We will still keep everything together so that an accurate costing of the house can be determined and if it proceeds then we have everything ready to pass to the Project.

I will release some demos over the next few weeks on the progress we are making.
